Origin and Benefits of Seabuckthorn Wax
Seabuckthorn wax is a natural plant wax derived from the thorny, deciduous shrub of the same name, which is found in Europe, the Caucasus, and Asia. The plant is known for its bright orange berries that are regarded as a superfood, as they are rich in vitamins, carotenoids, and minerals. Both the berries and their seeds are sources of seabuckthorn oil, valued for its uses as a dietary supplement and cosmetic ingredient. The wax used in KahlBase 7040 is obtained from virgin seabuckthorn oil and is upcycled as a by-product of the food industry.
The wax’s composition is predominantly triglycerides of various fatty acids, with a notable proportion of unsaturated fatty acids. These have high anti-inflammatory effects and contribute to strengthening the skin barrier, helping to keep the skin hydrated and healthy.
Other Key Ingredients in KahlBase 7040
The oils contained in 7040 are castor oil and crambe abyssinica seed oil (crambe oil). Castor oil is a well-known ingredient in the cosmetics industry that has moisturizing and skin conditioning benefits. Crambe oil is very silky in texture, easily absorbed, and does not leave a sticky or greasy feeling behind. To improve hardness and stability, sunflower seed wax is also included in our KahlBase 7040. The wax with outstanding oil binding capacity is derived from sunflower seeds as a by-product of the sunflower oil industry.
Applications and Usage Recommendations
KahlBase 7040 Seabuckthorn can be used as the structural basis for a variety of different cosmetic products, ranging from skin care to color cosmetics. It has a silky smooth skin feel without being too heavy and provides excellent pay-off. It is especially suitable for harder, anhydrous stick formulations. For this application, we usually recommend use levels of 40-75%. Additionally, 7040 can also be used as a booster ingredient to enhance the pay-off, spreadability, skin feel and texture of formulations. It can also act as a re-fatting agent. To achieve this, only small amounts of 5-35% are required. KahlBase 7040 Seabuckthorn is suitable for use in vegan and natural cosmetics.
